Volunteers at the ASY create custom-made photo transfer quilts for children (ages 0 – 17 years old) of deployed U.S. military service men and women. The quilts are personally handcrafted to help children cope with the emotional stress during a parent’s deployment.

To apply for a quilt, please review the requirements below and complete the following online application or mail/drop off a request form and photos to 3293 Santo Road, San Diego CA 92124. Only one request is needed per family.

Operation Kid Comfort

Eligibility 
Submission Requirements
  • Families can submit up to 12 weeks before a deployment or 12 weeks before service member returns from deployment.
  • One request is only required per family, completed via online form or you can mail/drop off a request form and photos to 3293 Santo Road, San Diego CA 92124
  • When submitting your request please be prepared to submit nine photos per child
Photo Requirements
  • Larger than 250KB but smaller then 2MB each
  • High-resolution to ensure picture quality when cropped for quilt template
  • Deployed parent required in each photo
  • 9 photos per child (duplicates accepted for siblings)
Request Time
  • Quilts are completed within 10-12 weeks from approved request date. (Request are reviewed within 5-10 days of submission and classified as approved or incomplete)
  • Families will receive an email when their child(ren)’s quilts are complete
  • Quilts should be picked up at the ASYMCA HQ office 3293 Santo Road San Diego, CA 92124.
  • Quilts can be only be shipped to families who have moved away from the San Diego area for a fee determined by the ASYMCA.

Thanks to a very successful partnership with the American Sewing Guild, Tuesday Ladies Club and SewMates we have over 60 volunteers assisting this FREE program. We ask that your family is patient during this difficult time as each quilt is handcrafted with love and may extend outside of the suggested time frame.

Operation Kid Comfort Photo Release: In order to cultivate potential donors in support of the Operation Kid Comfort program we would appreciate your permission to use photographic images provided in your quilt request as well as photographs of the finished quilts. The ASYMCA will only use your images, the images of your child(ren) and/or your spouse for legitimate purposes.
